The Team
Yvan
Estienne, Group Leader
Lives near Briançon. As a Mountain Guide, he has headed numerous expeditions to Nepalese summits, including Mount Everest. He was also a member of the French expedition that achieved the first ascent of Ama Dablam's north ridge, twenty years ago. |
||
Ang
Pasang, Sirdar
The Sirdar is the one who manages the Sherpa team. Ang Pasang is the only man to have summited Mount Kangchenjunga twice. |
||
Roman,
Cook
As the cook, he is undoubtedly the most important man for a French expedition. He managed to fix some nice food in the most difficult conditions after the sheet roof of his kitchen fell under the weight of snow. |
||
Pemba,
Climbing sherpa
|
||
Pema,
Climbing sherpa
With Pemba, they were constituting a strong team to bring up all the collective gear required for such an ascent: tents, food, rope and so on. And they have been very helpful when the weather turned to snow, for breaking the tracks. Thanks a lot. |

Kitchen
boys
What does a Base Camp would be without them ? Their songs and good mood have been the heart of it. |
||
Serge
Bazin
Mountain Guide in Chamonix. If there hasn't been a lack of gear, PO and him would have summited a lot earlier. Unfortunately, the bad weather arrived at Camp Three before the last two hundred meters of fixed rope... |
||
Roland
Georges
Mountain Guide in Courchevel. First travel to Nepal. Pascal and him equipped the last part of the route. |
||
Pascal
Arpin
Teaches nordic ski near Les Arcs. Will be a Mountain Guide in two years. He is the first man to reach the summit this season. His Nepal's experience includes an attempt on the North side of Mount Everest. |
||
Yannick
Navarro
Lives in Les Contamines a ski resort between Megève and Chamonix. She used to spent a lot of time every year in Nepal and attended several expeditions on 8000'ers including the Mount Everest with Yvan. |
||
Isabelle
Bouchet
She is a Nurse near Paris. She took great care of us and the fact that she had a bronchitis for the whole duration of the expedition is another evidence that if there is a God, he is not doing a great job. It was her first coming back to Nepal after a trek from Makalu to Khumbu in '90 with Yvan. |
||
"PO"
Pierre-Olivier Pellegrin
Lives in Paris, but was born in Chamonix. Good friend of Serge with who he did a lot of treks in Nepal and ascents everywhere. |
||
Dominique
Astier
Lives in Paris. He was with Yvan and Isabelle in Nepal for the "Three passes of Khumbu" trek in '90, certainly one of the most engaged trek in the area. But its main hobby remains free climbing. |
||
Wilfrid
Maxin
Lives in Paris. Second trip to Nepal with Yvan. They made the same trek as Isabelle and Dominique last year. |
||
Marc
Ernst
Lives in Strasbourg. He was with Yvan and Wilfrid in Nepal last year. |
||
Jean-Claude
Fiollet
Lives in Bourg-en-Bresse near Lyon. Judoka, Marathon man, and alpinist at leisure. He already climbed Alpamayo, in Peru, which is another one of my dreams. |
||
Béatrice
Georges
Teaches ski in Courchevel. She was not willing to reach the summit and spent most of the time at Base Camp painting the life and landscapes in Nepal. |
||
Arnaud
Clère
I live in Lyon where I am a Software Project Leader at Esker. This was my very first experience of Nepal. |
||
From Alpine trekking and Expedition Services I would like to thank them for arranging everything for us during this stay in Nepal. Do not hesitate to ask for their services if you intend to go there. |
